Is your Anti-Virus complaining about Instant Buzz?

My friend Ed emailed me today and asked for help. He said his anti-virus program is saying that Instant Buzz is malicious software and won’t allow Instant Buzz to run. I wrote this reply to Ed but I thought all of you would benefit.

Basically most anti-virus and spyware consider Instant Buzz to be possible malicious software.

Why?

Because Instant Buzz is an advertising tool. A hacker could for example figure out a way to force people to install instant buzz and then they’d earn tons of free advertising. Hackers have done that kind of thing in the past.

So Instant Buzz isn’t a virus but bad people could use it like a virus. They could force it to install on your PC so that is what AVG or Norton or Mcafee consider to be “malicious”. It’s not the software itself but it’s how people could use the software.

So the way around this is simply to tell your anti-virus to ignore Instant Buzz.

I’m not sure how to do this with AVG. Normally you click on the anti-virus icon so it brings up the control panel and somewhere in there is a way to go in and tell your anti-virus to ignore specific folders.

Or the other thing you can do a lot of times… is when the anti-virus runs and tells you Instant Buzz is a virus you can usually right click on it and say “ignore this program” or something like that.

When McAfee finds it pops up a box that looks like this and you can select “trust this program”.
